Grundy set to be moved on by the Magpies

Brodie Grundy has been at the Collingwood Magpies ever since the club selected him as the 12th pick in the 2012 AFL rookie draft.

Since then, he has gone on to play in nearly 200 games for the Pies.

Grundy was nominated for the AFL’s Rising Star award in 2013 and was named in the All-Australian teams of 2018 and 2019.

In 2018 Grundy had arguably his best year to date in the AFL, winning the Herald Sun’s Player of the Year Award and the Copeland Medal for being Collingwood’s best and fairest throughout the year as the Magpies made the 2018 Grand Final.

Seeing Grundy donning anything other than the black and white of Collingwood would be a strange sight for sure but could become a reality in 2023 as reports have emerged that the Magpies are looking to move their veteran on.

The Magpies are believed to be preparing a trade deal for Grundy in the offseason, according to Seven News reporter Tom Browne who recently appeared on the Triple M Footy Podcast.

“Whispers in recent weeks that Collingwood might be prepared to put Grundy up for trade,” said Browne.

“My information this afternoon is that Grundy’s management is now even expecting Collingwood to possibly flag the prospect of them asking if Grundy is interested in being traded.

“Clearly, Grundy would need to agree to that – and Collingwood hasn’t asked as yet.”

Browne then revealed to Seven News Melbourne that the Port Adelaide Power is interested in Grundy.

“Port Adelaide is interested in where Grundy is going to end up and his trade status at the end of the year,” said Browne.

“But at this stage, the Power doesn’t see Grundy leaving Victoria.

“If Grundy approves, Collingwood is expected to gauge his trade interest postseason.”

The 28-year-old has not played since Anzac Day after sustaining a knee injury.

Collingwood is currently in third place on the AFL ladder and could see themselves tied for first with a win over defending premier Melbourne Demons tomorrow night.

Melbourne is currently in second, and Friday’s game should have a real finals feel to it.
